Living Room Décor Trends for 2024

Living Room Décor Trends for 2024

Summer is upon us and with the weather getting brighter, warmer and sunnier everyday here in the northeast, some of you may be putting some thought into updating the look and feel of your living room. Well, today’s post will discuss simple design ideas that are all about being open to styles that reflect your personality with color, and textured looks.

While thinking about updating your living room, have you thought about going with a palette that is exploding with color? Or are you thinking about something more subtle, something with earth tones? Today, we offer you some great style options that may suit both your personality and your needs and bring your brand of elegance to your living room!

The size of your living room doesn’t matter. What does matter is picking the right color that will set the right vibe for a pleasing and elegant space; one where you can either relax on your own or entertain guests. There is one basic rule: light colors will make the room feel larger, while dark colors will make it feel smaller.

There are three color palettes trending in 2024 – Earth Tones, Jewel Tones and Coastal or Neutral Tones. The former is more of a style. Each one sets a particular tone with its overall look.

Let’s consider each group.

  1. Earth Tones: These are colors like the ones we see in nature. They are created by mixing brown with any other color or colors resulting in colors such as terra cotta, rust, muddled blues, greens and ivory. They give a natural feel to the environment. Below are two sample Earth Tone color palettes.
  2. Jewel Tones: These colors are influenced by the color of such stones as amethyst, emerald, ruby red, sapphire blue, citrine yellow and bold orange and used in jewelry. Below we have two sample Jewel Tone color palettes.
  3. Coastal or Neutral Tones will have you limp with relaxation, as these are more of a beach style that uses light and pastel colors such as light yellow, off white and sandy colors. Below are two sample Neutral Tone color palettes.

Let’s now look at some ideas you can implement in your home using the tones and colors of your choice.

  1. Accent Walls: Yes! Accent walls are back in 2024! Many accent walls are one solid, usually a dark color. Remember your one basic color rule regarding dark vs. light walls when making your decision. Next, we will review some options for accent walls.
  2. Consider using wallpaper on your accent wall. Though you can always use the traditional method of installing fabric wallpaper (using paste), today you have the option of using peel and stick paper that will not ruin your walls. Be sure your wall is clean and dry before applying.
  3. You can also try using textured wallpaper which will soften the feel of the room and add character. Not sure which to use? Wallpaper Direct is a supplier in the United States that will send you samples before you buy for free. Walls by Me is another company with a large inventory to choose from. Samples can be purchased for $10.99.
  4. Ceilings: Conventional ceilings are white even if the walls are not. If you want to go rogue and want to do something special, you have options! Try other colors that complement the rest of the room, there are other colors you can use. Or you can even wallpaper it! Homeworks Painting’s website offers alternate ways of tying your ceiling in with the rest of the theme of your living room, but below are images that will spark your creativity.
  5. Baseboards, Window and Door Trim: These are two areas we don’t pay too much attention to, but upgrading here will give your room an elegant look and is inexpensive to achieve! A sleek, clean look for baseboards is the best way to go whether you go white, another color or even a monochromatic look, like the one below from Pinterest.

When updating the window and door trims in the living room, or any room in your home for that matter, you can really make a statement here with color and textures like adding peel and stick color strips or left over wallpaper you may have.
